StoneRidge Begins Team Member Wellness Initiative

In an effort to improve the overall health and well-being of its over 600 team members, StoneRidge Retirement Living Communities kicked off their Team Member Wellness Program at all four of their campuses.  According to Dictionary.com, wellness is defined as “the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as a result of deliberate effort.”  It is “an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life as opposed to treating diseases.”  Tom Maiello, StoneRidge director of public relations and communications said, “The wellness of our team members is critical to the success of our mission as an organization.  Well team members are healthier, happier, more fulfilled and perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively.  This affects the wellness of everyone in our StoneRidge communities, most importantly our residents.”

Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is crucial to living a higher quality life.  Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being.  In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions.  Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.  The National Wellness Institute tells us that: 

* Wellness is a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential

* Wellness is multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment and

* Wellness is positive and affirming 

Kristin Tobias, who is coordinating the corporate wellness initiative shared, “As you can see, the concept of wellness is broader than just our physical health and may be applied to most areas of our lives.  At StoneRidge, we have established five pillars of wellness on which to focus.  These include Physical Wellness, Intellectual Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Financial Wellness and Spiritual Wellness.  Each month activities in these five areas will be offered to help our team members as they work to increase their overall fitness.  These include short classes on physical fitness, financial budgeting, spirituality and knowing when to seek help and where to get it.”
